President Robert Mugabe is back home from Japan where he attended the 3rd United Nations Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai.

He was met at the Harare International Airport by Vice Presidents, Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko, senior government officials and service chiefs.

In Japan, President Mugabe held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, where Japan pledged US$2.5 billion for disaster management in Zimbabwe.

Prime Minister Abe appealed to President Mugabe to assist in making the 6th Tokyo International Conference to be held in Africa for the first time next year, a success.

President Mugabe urged the Japanese leader to take advantage of the non-aligned movement summit to be held in Indonesia soon to lobby for the African vote in his country's bid to become a member of the UN Security Council.
