Low turnout for Gender Commission interviews

Public interviews to fill eight positions in the newly-formed Zimbabwe Gender Commission were yesterday marred by low attendance by the public and civil society organizations amid poor showing by some of the candidates.

The interviews were co-chaired by Kuwadzana East MP Nelson Chamisa and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Mabel Chinomona.

Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda was present throughout the interviews, alongside eight legislators from both Houses who were panellists.

There was stiff competition during interviews, but members of the public were not impressed by the calibre of some of the 33 interviewees as they showed lack of research on issues pertaining to the commission they were being interviewed for.

Some candidates were stammering a lot, waffling and even giving answers that were off topic, Evelyn Maseko, who attended the interviews as a member of the public
