ZANU-PF Midlands province in Kwekwe has a district called Gukurahundi B District at a time when top leadership is denying the occurrence of 1980s atrocities in Matabeleland and parts of Midlands.
The district name came to light in the state run Chronicle following the suspension of 11 Kwekwe district top brass.
Suspended Munyaradzi Muranda was Gukurahundi B District Youth Chairperson.
Recently, Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko declared that President Robert Mugabe had nothing to do with the 1980's Gukurahundi atrocities which, rights groups say, claimed about 20,000 civilian lives in the Matabeleland and Midlands regions.
Mugabe was prime minister when his government deployed an army unit specifically trained by North Korea for the purpose to crush "dissidents" linked to then rival Joshua Nkomo in the two regions.
Mphoko claimed Mugabe, despite being the effective head of the country's defence forces, had nothing to do with the killings.
"Gukurahundi after the war had nothing to do with Mugabe - nothing! That is a fact," Mphoko said.
Mphoko further said Gukurahundi was a conspiracy of the West.
"I have always said the post-Independence Gukurahundi was a conspiracy of the West. This I maintain …People can say what they want, but that was a Western conspiracy," he said.
