Mliswa to contest by-election as independent candidate

Former Zanu-PF Mashonaland West Provincial Chairperson, Temba Mliswa is set to stand as an independent candidate in Hurungwe West Constituency following his expulsion from the party, and dismissal of his appeal against expulsion from parliament by the Constitutional Court.
Mliswa claims that Zanu-PF supporters in Hurungwe West want him to continue representing them in parliament, a factor which has led him to brand himself an independent candidate.
Mliswa and his uncle, Didymus Mutasa were expelled from the august house last month following their fallout with the party.
Their expulsion prompted Wednesday's Constitutional Court hearing after the duo contested Zanu-PF's move to recall them.
In their appeal, the two argued that the Speaker of Parliament, Advocate Jacob Mudenda had no mandate to chuck them out of parliament under whatever circumstances, according to the country's constitution.
In a brief Constitutional Court judgement however, Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku, in concurrence with eight other judges, said Mutasa and Mliswa's court challenge lacked merit.
