A FORM Four Dangamvura High School pupil, who was believed to be high on drugs, ran amok last Thursday and viciously attacked a teacher and a security guard with a razor-sharp slasher.

The teacher, Dikfon Nikisi, was lucky to come out unhurt from the attack, while the security guard, Aaron Chaterera, was rushed to the hospital after sustaining deep cuts on his hands.

Eldridge Mwashita has since been arrested by the police over the attack and will soon appear in court.

The incident is part of a series of unruly behaviour being exhibited by pupils at the school due to rampant drug abuse.

Officer-in-Charge Dangamvura Police Station Chief Inspector Chigede said the attack was vicious.

"The pupil has been arrested over the attack. Reports are that there was some misunderstanding between the school authorities and the pupil, which resulted in the unfortunate incident," he said.

Mwashita, who is notorious for coming to school late, is alleged to have been given manual work to carry out as punishment. He was handed over a brand new slasher to do the work, but he resisted.

This resulted in a heated argument between him and Nikisi, which quickly got into the ears of the security guard. In a bid to save the day, Chaterera tried to intervene and apprehend the marauding pupil, but he was attacked.

"The attack was swift. The pupil aimed for the guard's head, but he ducked and protected himself with his hands. The weapon cut across his hands. He bled profusely from the attack. Realising that he had committed a crime the pupil bolted from the scene," said a staffer who requested anonymity.

The school's headmistress, Mrs Matende, refused to shed more light on the incident.

"The case has been referred to the police. Don't write such stories. Anyway, I am in a meeting. Your problem is that you rush to write these things," said Mrs Matende

Late last year, seven girls from the same school were arrested by police after they were caught red-handed smoking marijuana. The girls, aged between 14 and 16, were caught unawares by plain-clothes police officers who were acting on a tip-off.

They were in the company of two boys who bolted from the scene during the raid. They had made a big cigarette from the illegal substance which they were smoking by way of passing it on to each other at intervals.
