A 32-YEAR-OLD man is battling for life at St Peter's Mission Hospital in Chisumbanje after being stabbed by his friend over a $4 debt last Thursday.

Richard Bhila, who was owed the amount by Robert Hlondwani, was reportedly in a serious condition.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Enock Chishiri said Hlondwani was arrested and was assisting police with investigations.

The incident took place at Mahoko Village.

"At around 6.30am, Richard met Robert at Mahoko Business Centre where he was having a beer drink. He asked him about his $4 debt and Robert said he did not have the money.

"A misunderstanding arose and Robert, who was armed with a sharp wire, stabbed Richard on his neck. He bled profusely," said Insp Chishiri.

He urged people to settle disputes amicably to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.

"We urge people to settle differences in an amicable way and desist from violence.

"People should also be slow to react and be mature when dealing with disputes especially when under the influence of alcohol," he said.

He was rushed to St Peter's Hospital and his condition was reportedly serious.
