Mutare residents have accused Vice-President Emerson Mnangagwa of selling them a dummy when he commissioned the $10 million Chikanga water reservoir in February this year while quite aware that the project was far from being completed.

Residents of Chikanga, Hobhouse, Darlington, Greenside and Palmerstone suburbs told NewsDay over the weekend that they only learnt later that the commissioning ceremony had been fast-tracked to fall in line with Mnangagwa's busy schedule.

Mutare mayor Tatenda Nhamarare also admitted that they had brought forward the programme to accommodate Mnangagwa, but insisted that the reservoir was ready for use at the time.

However, some workers in the engineering department warned that it might take a bit longer before residents get normal water supplies as the reservoir had developed some cracks.
