MTN Group has released its annual report for 2014, revealing how much its top executives got paid in the last financial year.
MTN Group president and CEO Sifiso Dabengwa took home a total sum of R28.1 million in 2014, including a R13.3 million bonus and share gains of R3.5 million.
Dabengwa's salary for the full year 2014 was down significantly from a R48 million haul in 2013.
Despite a 40% pay cut Dabengwa still commands a salary far higher than any other mobile or tech executive in the country.
Dabengwa's salary is way less that what the Premier Service Medical Aid Society group chief executive officer Dr Cuthbert Dube used to earn when his generous allowances are factored in.
Dr Dube got allowances equivalent to his monthly basic salary of $230 000 plus a bonus of over $1 million.
This brought his annual earnings last year to just over $6,4 million. The annual wage bill of the 15 PSMAS executives for 2013 was a whopping $18,6 million with Dube taking more than a third of this total.
PSMAS group operations executive Mr Enock Chitekedza got about $2 million in 2013. Other executives pocketed slightly above a million dollars each over the year.
The other 13 executives were Ernest Gwinyai, Enock Chitekedza, Richard Mutasa, Cosmas Mukwesha, Juliana Sabarauta, Mavis Gumbo, Nicholas Munyonga, Augustine Khoza, Raphael Paradzayi and secretaries Joice Munyoro, Getrude Tsiga, Barbara Melusi, Fungai Nyamuzinga and Thomas Hama.
