Fear for Mliswa's life

As campaigning for the forthcoming Hurungwe West by-election gets increasingly nasty, there are growing fears for the life of firebrand former seat holder Temba Mliswa, who is still languishing in police custody following his arrest at the weekend for allegedly disturbing a Zanu-PF meeting in the constituency.
His uncle and former minister Didymus Mutasa, said yesterday that Mliswa's family and his supporters were fearing for the worst after being inundated with calls from villagers in Hurungwe who claimed that they had heard that their former legislator "would be silenced" in an endeavour to stop him from contesting the by-election.
Mliswa and four members of his campaign team were still in police custody yesterday following their arrest on Sunday on charges of disrupting a Zanu-PF meeting at Sengwe business centre.
By end of day yesterday, Mliswa and his team members, who include former Zanu-PF Harare youth chairman Jimmy Kunaka from Mbare, Munyaradzi Mugomedza, Farai Kuvheya and Prosper Gavanga, were still detained at Magunje Police Station in Hurungwe.
"The police are taking their time in dealing with the case. It looks like they want to fix him (Temba). The officer-in-charge and the officer who picked them at Sengwe are out of the station and no one is prepared to deal with the case in their absence," Zinyama said.
