A sex-starved woman yesterday told the court that her ex-husband used to spend weeks praying in the bush thereby denying her conjugal rights.

Rosemary Mutema claimed her marriage to Dzingai Chibodo got sour after she refused to join his church. This was revealed at the Harare Civil Court where Chibodo was seeking a protection order against Mutema.

"He used to spend weeks praying in the bush ignoring me and the children. During that time, I got sexually-starved," she said.

Mutema told magistrate Mr Trevor Nyatsanza that Chibodo was not financially maintaining the family.

Mutema said Chibodo told her that he was no longer interested in their marriage because she was refusing to join his church.

Chibodo, a self-proclaimed member of the Johanne Masowe apostolic sect, was accusing Mutema of breaching his peace.

"We are no longer staying together but she keeps on coming to our shrine insulting me with obscene words in front of my churchmates," he said.

Chibodo told Mr Nyatsanza that before they separated Mutema was in the habit of sleeping in the dining room with their children denying him conjugal rights.

"I tried to engage her relatives so that she would join my church to no avail," Chibodo said.

Mr Nyatsanza dismissed Chibodo's application due to lack of merit.
