The MDC-T Organising Secrtary Abednicho Bhebhe has accused President Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF for destroying people's dreams by holding on to power for the past 35 years with no attempt of economic progress in the country.

"As the Independence Day approaches, Zimbabwe at 35 has witnessed dreams and hopes being destroyed by none other than Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF's shocking record of mismanagement," he said.

"The vision of our dearest fallen and genuine living heroes has been betrayed. In 1980 millions of Zimbabweans were happy to see the Union Jack being lowered and the new Zimbabwean flag being raised but little did they know that they had been transferred from a white oppressor into the hands of a black oppressor. Promises were made but never fulfilled."

He said the health sector is pathetic; education standards keep falling while graduands add on the misery of suffering families because they are unemployed since jobs are scarce.

"On Saturday, the celebrations will be overshadowed by the country's economic meltdown under Mugabe's Zanu PF," said Bhebhe. "Zimbabweans have little or no reason to celebrate the Independence Day as they mourn joblessness and grinding poverty. Mugabe's 3 decade rule has witnessed only violations and oppression against Zimbabweans."

Bhebhe said the Entumbane clashes, the disappearance of Rachel Guzha, Gukurahundi massacres,
"ESAP, Murambatsvina, violent farm invasions that knocked the agricultural sector, abductions and violent election campaigns that have left many dead and displaced since independence are some of the hallmarks of Mugabe's rule," he said.

"Corruption is at its highest level while nepotism is ruling the roost in government offices. Surely, there is nothing to celebrate. What's there to celebrate while many have been made orphans? What's there to celebrate when we have been turned destitute? What's there to celebrate when we have been robbed of our freedom and democracy? Surely there is nothing to celebrate."

Bhebhe said Mugabe has no more future ahead of him, all what he has is an atrocious past that has completely erased his liberation contributions.
