A lucky punter has won a whooping $292 000 in the lotto jackpot.
The latest lotto winner has been trying his luck for the past 50 years.
The adage patience pays might have become a cliché, but one lucky punter Mr Manfred Petschl will stand up as a witness that indeed persistence bears fruits.
A professional hunter, Mr Petschl has also been hunting for fortunes but it took him half a century to finally strike gold.
The lucky punter got his $292 000 cheque from the lotto organisers, Mashonaland Turf Club, at a ceremony held at Borrowdale Race Course in the capital.
The calm winner indicated he will invest the money.
"I am going to decide next week how to use the money but I could use it to secure a lease for hunting," Mr Petschl said.
This is the second highest lotto ever to be won after Limukani Chingoka walked home with $307 000 a few years ago.
Mashonaland Turf Club operations executive Howard Mukundu said the company strives to ensure transparency and integrity of the lotto urging partners to keep playing the game.
"This is one of the things that can change lives," said Mr Mukundu.
Manfred becomes the 18th lotto winner since inception bringing the total money won to $2.5 million.
$2.9 million has been donated to charity.
