THREE Harare men were arrested last week on allegations of fatally assaulting a commuter omnibus conductor following a dispute over bus fare.
It is alleged that Edmore Munhenga (27), Phebion Mushayi (23) and Tinashe Makumbe (25) refused to pay their bus fare when the conductor demanded it.
This prompted the driver to drop them off before they had reached their destination, sparking a misunderstanding.
The trio then assaulted the conductor, Tinashe Tsodzo.
One of the suspects allegedly hit Tsodzo with a brick on the head and he died on the spot.
The trio is now facing murder charges.
The magistrate, Mr Tendai Mahwe, remanded them in custody to April 28.
They were advised to seek bail at the High Court due to the gravity of their offence.
Prosecutor Mrs Idah Mateke-Maromo alleged that on April 13, the trio were in a kombi heading to Eastview from town.
When Tsodzo demanded bus fare they refused to pay.
In a bid to fix the trio, the driver dropped them about a kilometre from their destination, it is alleged.
They accused the kombi crew of ill-treatment and an altercation ensued.
The State alleges that of the trio picked up a brick and struck Tsodzo on the head and he died instantly.
Munhenga was apprehended on the scene by other passengers while his accomplices fled, the court heard.
He was later handed over to the police and he implicated Mushayi and Makumbe.
