THE contradictory statements about civil servants bonuses issued by both Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa who said this year and next year the government workers will not get their bonuses and that of President Robert Mugabe who on independence day said the civil servants will get their bonuses have brewed a storm.
Sections society have attacked the government of having no coordinated approach to public issues which means total failure to serve the nation.
Journalist and political commentator Methuseli Moyo wondered if it is possible that a minister in President Mugabe's government would have the audacity to summon a press conference to announce a ground-shifting development such as "there will be no bonus for civil servants for the next two years" without briefing Mugabe first?
"If indeed Chinamasa did so, then he must be a very dangerous person - more dangerous than Cde Joice Teurai Ropa Mujuru and her Gamatox Cabal, and must consequently be ejected from Government," said Moyo.
"In any event, such an unsanctioned, but earth shuttering announcement should have immediately attracted Presidential action, there and there. Are we supposed to believe that the president only became aware of Chinamasa's "mischief" days later? If so, how and why? There is a story behind a story here comrades."
Moyo said what he finds revealing is how Mugabe's aides, such as Chinamasa and Charamba are willing to be sacrificed and "admit mistakes" which never were. It seems these guys fear Mugabe more than we do.
"Mugabe knows this [and that is] is why he can say anything about any of them and they never dare open their mouths. He can call them "weevils", and they pretend he has said nothing. Even Mujuru and Mutasa, they will always underline that they respect Mugabe, even when he has kicked them in the teeth. Poor chaps," he said.
Sinqobile Tesa said he suspects they realised afterwards that the bonus issue will backfire so Bob came up with a tactic to reverse the decision because surely there is no way Chinamasa can announce such a thing without briefing his principal, unless of course if HE is now suffering from amnesia.
Faith Silandulo Dube said it's clear that someone is no longer in control of the government and they know that.
Cornellious Ndlovu said,"Remember Margaret Dongo in Parliament saying "...You men are all Mugabe's wives..." She nearly got lynched in Parliament by amongst many others the late General Solomon Mujuru! Sometimes we must agree she was way ahead of time."
