Mugabe meets Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping

President Robert Mugabe who is in Jakarta, Indonesia, has held bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart President Xi Jinping on Thursday morning.

President Mugabe who was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, Zimbabwe's ambassador to Indonesia, Ambassador Alice Mageza, and some senior government officials hailed the deep friendship that Zimbabwe has with the Asian economic powerhouse.

He described the friendship as permanent, whose roots lie in the history of co-operation.

The President paid tribute to the Chinese government for standing by Zimbabwe during its difficult period.

Mugabe also conveyed his appreciation to President Jinping who sent personal congratulatory message to President Mugabe on his assumption of the AU top post.

The talks were held at Shangri-la hotel in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, the North Korea President of the Supreme People's Assembly Mr Kim Yong Nam has paid a courtesy call on President Mugabe.

President Mugabe is in Indonesia where he is co-chairing the 2015 Asia-Africa Conference where leaders from the two regions are sharing experiences and discussing strategies to overcome common challenges and boost economic development in both continents through improved south-south cooperation.
