Social and political commentators have challenged the Zanu-PF government in Zimbabwe to create jobs for its nationals in order to prevent situation where there are mass exodus to other countries as people go to seek for greener pastures, indicating that would prevent them from being attacked like what is happening in South Africa.

A journalist and political commentator Methuseli Moyo said if the Zanu-PF administration stopped pursuing its crazy policy of "51 percent "we grab and leave you with a minority 49 percent", South African and indeed European, American and Asian firms would come and open businesses here, and our people would work for them here, instead of going to work for them in foreign countries where they are exposed to exploitation and xenophobia.

"If I were in power, I would make the law 49 percent local, and give the investors the 51 percent they need to have a controlling stake of their investment, while allowing the locals to have at least 49 percent, which is meaningful," he said."No person would bring money, establish an enterprise, take all the risks, only to have other people control his/her investment simply because the country is "theirs". Zimbabwe is a weak state which cannot at this point manage to dictate terms when it needs investors more than they need it.

Investors will simply set base in SA, Botswana and other nearby countries with friendly policies, and let Zimbabweans flock there and exploit them as cheap labour, and then send their goods to Harare and Bulawayo for sell."

He said in fact, Zimbabwe has become a provider of cheap, immigrant labour, and a huge market for goods produced in SA by the cheap Zimbabwean labour.

"Zimbabwe needs a serious leadership that knows that our country needs to compete for investment and win it, than to gloat that we "own" minerals, land, this and that, yet we are wallowing in poverty and running all over the world taking up all the funny jobs for a living," he said.
