Tsvangirai hints at 2018 election boycott

Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday told thousands of his supporters that the MDC will not take part in any election, including the much anticipated 2018 general election, unless electoral reforms are put in place.
Addressing supporters in Harare's Glen View suburb, Tsvangirai said partaking in any polls in the country before reforms are put in place is an "exercise in futility".
He also said the ruling Zanu-PF party had perfected the art of rigging and thus could easily manipulate the polls.
He explained that the expulsion of the 21 MPs was based on principle.
Meanwhile, United Kingdom based Zimbabwean and constitutional law expert and Tsvangirai's former adviser, Alex Magaisa urged the opposition party to reverse their decision to boycott more future by-elections in order to expose the Zanu-PF government's reluctance to implement electoral reforms.
The MDC-T and several other opposition parties have vowed not to participate in future elections citing government's refusal to implement key electoral reforms enshrined in the Constitution.
Tsvangiral last week told MDC-T supporters that the party would stick to its congress resolution to continue boycotting elections until the playing field has been levelled.
