A 31-YEAR-OLD woman in a polygamous marriage allegedly pulled her husband's genitals before fatally striking him with a pestle following an argument over a dollar, police have confirmed.
Namatirai Makaya (31), who was Owen Muto's third wife, fatally struck her husband (53) as she attempted to stop him from further assaulting her using a burning log.
Chief Munyikwa said the incident occurred last week on Monday at around 7pm.
Muto's body was taken to Silveira Mission Hospital mortuary for post-morterm.
Sources say on the day Muto arrived home from a beer drink and found Makaya busy preparing supper in the kitchen hut.
Upon his arrival Muto, who was holding a two-litre container with opaque beer, stood outside the kitchen hut and was greeted by his 12-year-old daughter.
"The daughter asked Makaya's whereabouts but Muto professed ignorance. He instead proceeded to the kitchen where Makaya was before summoning her to the bedroom hut," said Mr Lameck Muto, a relative to the deceased.
Muto had called Makaya to the bedroom purporting he had something private and serious to share with her.
"While in the bedroom, Muto asked Makaya why she had, during the day, sent a five-year-old boy from the village to collect $1 from their matrimonial bedroom," he said.
A misunderstanding ensued between the two, leading to Makaya leaving the bedroom in a huff and proceeding to the kitchen hut intending to prepare supper.
Lameck said the enraged Muto followed Makaya to the kitchen where upon arrival, he picked a burning log which he used to strike Makaya on the left hand once.
Makaya also got angry and went outside where she picked Muto's beer and spilt it.
Undeterred, Muto, who was still holding a burning log, followed and the couple wrestled for the log after which Muto slapped Makaya on the right cheek.
"Makaya then got even angrier and grabbed Muto's manhood, thereby bringing him to the ground. Makaya dashed some distance away from Muto, only to come back armed with a pestle which she unleashed on the husband's head once, leaving him unconscious," Lameck said.
After seeing that Muto was unconscious, Makaya raised alarm and Muto's first wife Rosemary Magarapa (36) rushed to the scene and rendered First Aid.
Muto was then rushed to Silveira Hospital where he died, a few minutes after admission.
A report was made to the police at Chin'ai Police Base, leading to Makaya's arrest.
Acting Masvingo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nkululeko Nduna confirmed the incident and said Makaya was assisting police with investigations.
She is expected to appear in court this week, facing a murder charge.
