Murder cases drop in Harare - report

Harare Province has recorded a decline in cases of murder and armed robbery during the first three months of 2015 but saw a marked increase in stock-theft.

Based on  the first quarter Harare Province crime report, cases of murder decreased by 31 % from 16 cases in the first quarter of 2014 to 11 cases during the period under review.

Armed robbery cases were down 53% while plain robbery cases also decreased by 24 %.

Stock-theft cases rose by 51 % compared to the same period of 2014.

The ZRP Harare Province, which recently re-launched the Service Charter in Chitungwiza's St Marys, paid tribute to the community for contributing to the reduction of cases of armed robbery and murder during the first quarter of 2015.

According to ZBC,  the Officer Commanding Harare Province, Senior Assistant Commissioner Shadreck Mubayiwa assured Harare residents that the police will remain guided by the need to offer the highest quality service to the public and to cooperate with the community in reducing various crimes.

The re-launch of the Harare Province Service Charter was meant to re-assure the public of police's dedication to provide the community with the most effective and efficient service as well as to raise awareness of the fact that fighting crime is a shared responsibility.
