Mliswa seeks acquittal on 'illegal' gun possession charges

Former Hurungwe West MP Temba Mliswa, accused of possessing stolen firearms, has informed the court of intention to apply for discharge after the State closed its case last Friday.

His lawyer said that he will file the application tomorrow, while the State will respond on May 4, and Chinhoyi magistrate Felix Mawadze will make a ruling on May 8.

The former Zanu-PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman Temba Mliswa was arrested for illegally possessing seven AK47 assault rifles.

According to state media reports, the guns were discovered at Mliswa's Spring Farm in Karoi.
