MDC-T supporters on Wednesday took security forces by surprise and demonstrated in Harare, calling for President Robert Mugabe's exit as SADC heads of state arrived in the capital.

Mugabe is the chair of SADC and the African Union (AU) and there is an ongoing regional summit on industrialisation.

The protesters accused Mugabe of running down the country and dictatorship.

Armed police were called in and clashed with more than 200 supporters who started their protest at Harvest House, the MDC-T headquarters.

The placard waving party supporters marched towards Meikles Hotel, where the summit is being held.

Some of the placards read, "SADC save us from Mugabe ISIS', 'Zanuphobia in Zimbabwe', "Mugabe should go now SADC', and 'Bob is election rigging machine".

The protesters also sang songs that described Mugabe as an evil dog and Morgan Tsvangirai as Zimbabwe's legitimate leader.

By yesterday, heads of state or their representative from Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania and Lesotho had arrived in Harare.
