AS if he was not determined to take his own life 30 minutes before, a Mutare man had to endure painful moments after being injured after his second suicide attempt in less than 12 hours had failed again at Sakubva Musika last week.

In the second attempt, Willard Mangere (25) of Zimunya Township had tried to hang himself with a rope near the busy market place and a passer-by rushed to cut the rope.

He landed on the ground with a thud and sustained injuries in the process, leaving him groaning in pain.

Speaking to The Weekender, Mangere's friend, Golden Musomeko, who was also in his company before the sad event, said his friend was complaining since the previous day that he had been duped of $30 by his other friends in Zimunya.

"Yesterday, he threw himself in front of a moving commuter omnibus.

"Luckily, the driver stopped and the passengers attacked Mangere and warned him against taking his life," claimed Musomeko.

The advice seemed to have fallen on deaf ears because he attempted a second suicide hardly 24 hours later.

Mangere's other friend, Blessing Mujeni, said earlier that morning they had been drinking beer and he told them about his bitterness of losing his $30.

"He then went to borrow a rope from a vendor and went to Gamunorwa Garage where he tried to hang himself.

"I am one of the people who carried him back here after his suicide bid was foiled.

"He is in so much pain and cannot walk.

"When the rope was cut, he landed on the ground with a thud and was injured in the process. He should be rushed to hospital because he is in pain," said Mujeni.

Mangere who is said to be in the smuggling of second-hand clothes business from Mozambique is alleged to have been duped by his friends and was left bitter.
