The new political Party formed on September 2014 has made sensational claims that the People First Slogan being used by former Zanu PF ousted members led by Former vice President Joice Mujuru calling themselves Zanu People First belonged to it.
In a letter to the media, Media lioson officer of The Priogressive Democrats of Zimbabwe (PDZ) party Leonard Koni says his letter serves to make it known to all media houses in Zimbabwe and other political parties that the the slogan "People First" belongs to his party a party that was formed and registered by Barbara Nyagomo in in September 2014 with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).
"We learnt with shock and disbelief that Didymus Mutasa has adopted our 'People First' slogan in his new political party which which he formed after being allegedly expelled from ZANU-PF as per media reports," said Koni. "We feel Mutasa and the media should not temper with our slogan because that can confuse the electorate. We in the PDZ believe that voters need a clear didn't ion between party slogans, symbols and regalia for them not to feel cheated during elections. We do not have any bone to chew with Mutasa but we would want him to know that the slogan he is trying to take is already registered under our name."
He said the media and Mutasa together with his political formation, if it exist should consult with ZEC for clarification.
"We are aware that ZEC requires all new political parties to present their constitution, slogan, values, vision, logo and organogram to be notified as a political party in Zimbabwe," he said. "Our party was registered in 2014 by the ZEC and our details were verified as original and not close to any other party back then."
He said his party hereby inform the media in Zimbabwe that it is disheartened when journalists addresses the new Mutasa's Zanu PF using its slogan.
"PEOPLE FIRST". We understand that Mutasa formed his formation after his alleged expulsion from ZANU-PF after their congress of December 2014 way after the registration of the PDZ," said Koni. "By referring to Mutasa's political formation with our PDZ slogan "People First" you are in a sense misinforming the electorate that Mutasa is the originator of the slogan. We will be happy if you can inform Mutasa to find a slogan that you can use when addressing his new political party. This is causing great alarm and despondency among us the members of the PDZ including its president because we feel that there is an infringement on our slogan."
He said it is time to give due respect and honour to the very people who had sleepless nights to craft this slogan.
"PDZ does appreciate the emergency of other political parties to fill in the in a democratic country and does not have hard feelings of such parties but we still think that it is healthy to respect other people's political estates," said Koni. "The continuous use of PDZ slogan by the new "Zanu People First" party is bound to cause confusion in the long run. It is going to confuse the electorate that have a right to support PDZ because it will be impossible to differentiate which slogan belongs to PDZ or this new Zanu Pf of Mutasa. We hope that this matter will be addressed by the media and Mr Mutasa and his group."
