Bulawayo nurses ignore industrial strike

THE crippling industrial action by nurses in Harare, Chitungwiza and Chinhoyi has not spread to Bulawayo as referral government hospitals are operating normally.
Nurses at Mpilo and United Bulawayo Hospital are reporting for duty.
United Bulawayo Hospitals Chief Executive officer, Nonhlanhla Ndlovu and Acting CEO, Leonard Mabhande both said they have not encountered any form of disgruntlement that might lead to a strike.
The Health Service Board (HSB) was on Wednesday evening forced to review night duty allowances for nurses from a messy $3 to between $50 and $70 depending on the nurses' grade with effect from the 1st of May.
The standoff between the HSB and the Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZINA) began in March when the nurses submitted a petition.
The petition raised complaints over alleged unfair distribution of the $1.5 million allocated by treasury for health specific allowances.
The nurses were demanding a raise in their night duty allowance which was pegged at $3 per 7 nights.
