Jilted Masvingo xenophobia victim buried, wife chased from funeral

Steven Mbirika, (42), the xenophobia victim who hanged himself after returning from South Africa to find his wife dating another man has been buried amid drama as his relatives chased away the wife from the funeral.

Mbirika's wife, Tendai Murinye was chased away from the burial ceremony together with all her relatives who had accompanied her there.

According to Masvingo Mirror, a  suicide note that blames Tendai and her mother, Ketina Maduma (81) of luring him into a relationship and then cruelly dumping him.

The relatives who refused to be named and led by an aunt to the deceased, charged towards Tendai as the body arrived for burial at Mangwandi cemetery and demanded that she and her relatives leave the cemetery before they beat her up.

"You indicated that you had separated with Stephen and we also hold you accountable for his death…what do you want here, go away..," said the unidentified aunt on top of her voice.

Tendai and two relatives left without a word.

The deceased accused Tendai for causing his death.

He wrote in his suicide note found in his pocket; "…snatched me so that you could kill me thanks so much Mbuya Murinyer".

Mbirika committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at his in-laws after he returned from South Africa and his wife had moved on and no longer loved him.

Mbirika who was working in South Africa came back as a result of the xenophobic attacks in that country and he had one child with Tendai.
