Wife bashed over cellphone password

SECURING her smartphone by installing an application that hides messages, pictures and videos saw a married woman being bashed by her husband who had failed to access the information on demand.
Sindi Chibata appeared before Mutare Magistrate Mrs Yeukai Chigodora praying for protection from her husband, Albert Chibata, whom she accused of being an abusive and violent husband.
Sindi told the court that the abuse started after she had installed Vault on her phone, a phone application that made it easy for her to fully control her privacy and secrets since it requires a PIN code.
"The intention of installing Vault in my phone was not to wreck my marriage or to keep secrets from my husband, but only to give him a test of his own medicine since he has his own phone PIN code activated at all times.
"Regardless of the fact that he refuses to give me his own code, he expected me to give him mine, but I refused and that resulted in him assaulting me," she explained.
Sindi also told the court that Albert denied her permission to go into town.
"He says that since he is my husband he is the one who should give me permission to get into town and to pursue my career as a teacher," said Sindi who is currently a student teacher.
Albert, however, disputed Sindi's claims that she had installed the application as a get-back at him.
He told the court that his wife was cheating on him and that was the reason why she had installed the secrecy application on her phone.
"I caught her at one time texting via Vault and she quickly grabbed the phone from me before I could read the text.
"I do not know who she was texting and that only gave me room to doubt her loyalty as a wife.
"On the issue of going to town Your Worship, of course I said it because she gets into town and usually returns home around 7pm. She never tells me where she would have been, but expects me to help her with her household chores," claimed Albert.
The protection order was granted to Sindi and Albert was barred from assaulting and insulting her.
However, Sindi was also urged to change her behaviour if what had been said by her husband was the truth.
