'Possessed' man threatens to commit suicide at one of his relatives' homestead

A MAN from Musiyazviriyo family left the gallery in shock this week when he suddenly burst into tears threatening to commit suicide at one of his relatives' homestead after the relative had approached the courts seeking a protection order against him.
Joel Musiyazviriyo caused a scene at the Mutare Civil Courts resulting in court officials intervening. He admitted to the accusations levelled against him claiming that he acted violently because he was possessed.
"Your Worship, it is true that l went to my aunt's place holding a machete and destroyed all the property. I don't know how l vandalised the property. There is a bad spirit which was cast on me and these three applicants are refusing to assist me remove it since I am an orphan. What pains me most is that Sevenzai Musiyazviriyo (second applicant)'s husband committed suicide in 2010 and his spirit was cast on me. I was given one of his belongings when he died and now the spirit is tormenting me. Before he died he also vandalised his aunt's property with a machete and my actions clearly shows that his spirit is using me," claimed Joel.
He also added that Sevenzai's late husband appeared to him in dreams and visions and sometimes his child was being tormented by the same spirit.
This all emerged at Mutare Civil Court where Gay, Sevenzai and Kundai Musiyazviriyo appeared seeking a peace order against Joel.
Gay told the court that Joel was in the habit of threatening and insulting his children and tenants alleging that his uncle was refusing to assists him concerning his sickness.
He told the court that Joel came where they were having a memorial service for his late uncle and took the tombstone which was supposed to be put at the grave.
"After that incident Your Worship, he went home and took the pots which we had used to cook meat which was supposed to be consumed by the people gathered at the function and went away with it," Gay added.
The court also heard that on the same day Joel visited his uncle Kudzai with the pots and ordered him to sell all the meat since he had not attended the function.
"He also threatened to set my house on fire Your Worship and since then l am now living in fear," said Kudzai.
Adding on to the accusations was Sevenzai alleging that their violent relative asked her on several occasions to appease her husband's spirit.
"I am not interested in visiting their homesteads, but l beg them to assist me cast their late relative spirit tormenting me so that l can live a normal life. They should seriously consider my plea before l commit suicide at one of the applicant's place," Joel shouted in tears.
The presiding magistrate Mrs Yeukai Chigodora granted the peace order. She, however, ordered Joel to peacefully approach his relatives if in need of their help.
