A Zanu PF youth member allegedly struck a church member at the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG) with a stone over unclear issue.

Daniel Chilongo (36) of Luveve has not been asked to plead to assault charge when he appeared before Bulawayo senior magistrate Sibongile Msipa Marondedze. The magistrate further remanded him for trial.

The prosecutor Tawurai Hondoyemoto told the court that on April 21, 2015 at 6.45pm Chilongo attended a church service at UCKG church corner 13th Avenue and Forty Street in Bulawayo and the complainant Hadson Mafesi (24) of Suburbs was present.

Chilongo went out of the church and returned into the church armed with a stone that he used to attack Mafesi on the left side of the head and he fell on the ground.

Chilongo ran away but Church mates ran after him and caught him. He was then arrested.

Mafesi sustained a deep cut on the left side of the head and was taken to Mpilo hospital where he was treated.

Chilongo is a known Zanu PF Bulawayo youth  involved in the party's indigenization programmes.
