Zanu-PF MP seeks ConCourt referral

Christopher Chigumba, Zanu-PF's legislator yesterday applied for his 2001 fraud case to be referred to the ConCourt.

The businessman cum-politician argued that getting a fair trial was impossible because 14 years have lapsed since the offense was allegedly committed.

Chigumba is being charged of defrauding the Agriculture ministry of Z$6 000 000 000, equivalent to $157 000 in the 90s.

The amount is being converted according to a Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe rates confirmation certificate which states that as at January 17 200, $1 was equivalent to Z$38.15.

His legal representative argued that the passage of time was too long for the matter to be heard now.
