A pupil at Zvapungu Secondary School in Rusape who visited her brother in Mbembesi during the April 2015 school holidays was severely beaten by her brother after she used all the sugar which the brother had reserved to put in the child's porridge.
This was heard by a Bulawayo magistrate Sibongile Msipa Marondedze when Kudakwashe Gwatura (21) appeared before her charged with physical abuse of his young sister Thembelihle Gwatura.
He was not asked to plead to the charge after the girl filed an affidavit withdrawing the charges on condition that her brother had apologised and he was the one paying her school fees. The magistrate then withdreqw the charges before plea and discharged him.
An argument ensued leading to Gwatura slapping her once on the cheek with open hand before picking a stick and striking her with it on the forehead.
She suffered laceration above her eye and was sent to hospital for treatment.
A report made to the police led to Gwatura's arrest.
