A 45-YEAR-OLD Gokwe gold panner has been slapped with a 20 year jail term for raping his three-year-old daughter.
The minor was raped by her father who had found her alone while returning from a mining claim.
He summoned the child to his bedroom and raped her once.
The gold panner threatened the minor not to report the case to anyone.
The child's grandmother noticed that the minor was having difficulties in walking and interviewed her.
The child revealed that she was raped by her father.
The matter was reported to the police leading to the man's arrest.
A medical report produced in court proved that the child was raped.
According to the Herald, the gold panner, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Gokwe-Kwekwe regional magistrate Amos Mbobo last week. But he was convicted due to overwhelming evidence presented.
Mbobo said the child looked up to the father for protection, but the man betrayed that trust when he abused the minor.
