The battle for Harare East Constituency in the June 10th by-elections has taken a new twist as it has emerged one of the candidates Terence Mukupe allegedly falsified his home address.

According to ZBC News, Mukupe is said to be a holder of the United States green card and is alleged to have submitted a false address on his nomination papers to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

The winner of Zanu-PF primary elections held on the 11th April 2015, Mukupe is alleged to have registered his residential address as Number 3 Reigate Close in Highlands.

However, investigations have revealed that the house belongs to a Mr Shonhiwa who is sub-letting the property.

The ZBC further alleges that its investigation revealed that Mukupe is in fact residing at Number 293 Coombe Road in Glen Lorne.

A gardener at the house confirmed this.

According to the ZEC constituency delimitation map, Harare East Constituency is made up of three wards, ward 8, 9 and 46 and the address where Mukupe is residing falls outside the constituency's boundary.

According to the electoral laws a House of Assembly candidate must own a property in the constituency that they wish to represent.

Another allegation against Mukupe is that he only registered as a voter on the 2nd of April 2015 and was never active in Zanu-PF structures even at cell level.

According to the Zanu-PF selection criteria, aspiring candidates for House of Assembly seats should have served the party for at least five years.

Contacted for comment, Mukupe denied the allegations.

More allegations against Mukupe have surfaced amid claims that far from being financially sound as he has publicly proclaimed, the aspiring legislator is indebted to several local banks where he is failing to service loans totalling close to $2 million at local financial institutions including CBZ, NMB and ZB Bank.

Mukupe is further alleged to have been involved in shady dealings on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) through a non-registered company called KLI which siphoned US$90 000 from the local bourse against local financial regulations.

ZBC News alleges that Mukupe and his partner Chris Sholwater who is believed to be a CIA agent used the company to claim ZSE rebates through the unregistered company.

Zanu-PF Harare Province registered strong objections to Mukupe's candidature but he went ahead and registered as a candidate on a Zanu-PF ticket for the June 10th by-election.

The court also ruled that he be allowed to participate.
