Grace Mugabe on new rallies

PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe's wife, Grace has summoned all provincial ministers to a crucial meeting at her Mazowe compound.

The Mazowe complex also played host to meetings with war veterans and other Zanu-PF party organs as Grace moved to disgrace former vice president Joice Mujuru who was subsequently fired by President Mugabe.

And Friday's meeting is also about Mujuru, sources said.

"All provincial ministers are in Harare preparing for the meeting this Friday with the First Lady," said an official.

"Some of them are suspected to be still working with the Mujuru camp and the First Lady wants to put a stop to that."

A few of the provincial ministers have reason to quake in their boots ahead of the meeting.

"I feel pity for Jason Machaya (Midlands), Martin Dinha (Mashonaland central) and Mirriam Chikukwa (Harare).

"They have been labelled gamatox and could be in trouble with the First Lady," the source said.

Ahead of Zanu-PF's tumultuous December congress, Grace staged meetings at her Mazowe home and rallies around the country attacking Mujuru.

The First Lady accused Mujuru of incompetence and corruption.

With the backing of her husband, Grace claimed Mujuru was plotting a coup against the president, allegations which subsequently saw the latter expelled from Zanu-PF and dismissed from government.

Several cabinet ministers and top Zanu-PF officials were also fired for backing the alleged coup plot.

Mujuru denies the charges with critics saying she was hounded out of the party and government as part of efforts to ensure the security of the First Family in a post-Mugabe era.

The veteran Zanu-PF leader turned 91 this year and his party is bitterly divided over his succession, a problem that has forced Mugabe to remain in office even as he struggles with poor health and the effects of old age.
