AN AILING city woman landed herself in trouble after her husband discovered some herbs she was given by a friend to heal her sore leg, accusing her of trying to poison him.
Charity Sidhuli told a Mutare magistrate that her abusive husband had finally found a proper reason to get rid of her
"Since 1987, I have been in an abusive relationship with this man, this is clearly untold suffering.
"I thought my husband would change. He never contributed anything towards the upkeep of our children. Though we live together, we do our things separately. Now our children are all adults but he still assaults me.
"He always accuses me of having adulterous affairs.
"At one point, he even accused me of dating a young boy who is even younger than my first born.
"Last year my friend gave me some herbs to use for my sore leg since she heard me lamenting about it and l could not turn down her herbs. I did put the herbs in my hand bag and totally forgot about them.
"He later discovered the herbs in our bedroom and started accusing me of trying to food poison him.
"Since then he does not eat anything l cook therefore l have also stopped cooking for him," Charity explained to the court.
She added that her husband also moved out of their matrimonial bedroom and was also in the habit of hiding the house keys. She begged with the court to grant her a protection order claiming that she was now leaving in fear of her husband.
Responding to the allegations, Evans Sidluli admitted to some of the allegations but denied assaulting his wife.
"It is correct that l discovered some muti in the house and l stopped eating her food because I felt unsafe. But she also left out that she denies me my conjugal right that is why l decided to move out of our bedroom to avoid arguments.
I do not have time to assault her since l live home early and comes back late. Your Worship, l have my own set of keys therefore l see no reason why l should hide theirs," argued Evans.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs Yeukai Chigodora granted the protection order and urged the couple to resolve their differences amicably. She also advised them to avoid spreading their differences to their children.
