Zanu-PF says it is backing the candidature of Terence Mukupe for the Harare East by-elections ahead of another party candidate, Mavis Gumbo.

The party's spokesperson, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said Zanu-PF has requested Gumbo to withdrew her candidature and rally behind Mukupe.

He said the party conducted primary elections on the 11th of April where seven  candidates from Zanu-PF participated and Mukupe was confirmed as the  winner with 651 votes.

Ambassador Moyo added  that the party's constitution states that the candidate who wins primary elections represents the party in elections.

He said consultations on the party candidate for Harare East by-election have been taken to the highest level and Zanu-PF has endorsed Mukupe.

Ambassador Moyo has urged the entire Harare Province to rally behind him.
