ZIMBABWE Football Association President Cuthbert Dube's reign finally came to an end yesterday when Zifa councillors' Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held in Harare fired him together with two other board members.

Bulawayo24 broke the news on Saturday, revealing that deputy president Omega Sibanda took over as acting capacity with immediate effect.

More details have emerged on what transpired.

Of the 58 Zifa councillors, 30 attended the meeting, to make all decisions binding as they constituted a quorum.

Board members Fungai Chihuri and Tavengwa Hara were also kicked out while John Phiri and board member Bernard Gwarada (Finance), who were some of Dube's vocal critics, survived the chop.

Secretary of the councillors committee Piraishe Mabhena, who is also the Eastern Region boss, announced Dube's expulsion.

"The resolution of this meeting will be communicated to Fifa and CAF tonight. We should take back football to where it belongs.

"The congress unanimously agreed to revoke the mandate of Zifa president Dube with immediate effect as per article 22 sub section of the Zifa constitution."

"After deep introspection and analysis of the challenges facing the association, Assembly members felt it was in the interest of the game that Dube should be relieved of his duties as he worked closely with Mashingaidze in hiding the association's finances, which councillors have not been privy to since coming into office last year.

"The board member responsible for finance, Bernard Gwarada, has been kept in the dark about finances and all we have seen are lawsuits and court orders that have compromised the standing of the association. The finances were being kept a secret because as councillors we were not given access to the Zifa financial records something we feel has compromised our ability to dispatch our duties," said Mabhena, adding that section 22 of the Zifa constitution empowered them to revoke the mandate of any board member hence their decision would stand," said Mabhena
