'Tsvangirai's MDC-T impotent,' says Kasukuwere

Zanu-PF national political commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere, yesterday urged people of Bulawayo to dump for good the impotent MDC-T party as it failed to deliver and has taken the electorate for a ride for close to a decade.
Speaking at a campaign rally for the revolutionary party's candidate for Makokoba Constituency in the June 10 by-elections, Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube, Kasukuwere said it was high time the electorate sent signals to all opposition political parties that Makokoba and Bulawayo at large were not a political playground.
He said voting for a Zanu-PF candidate is the only way to development and improving the standard of living in Makokoba.
"We're here in Makokoba and we can't deny that last time you (Zanu-PF supporters) tried your best by voting for Zanu-PF in Makokoba Constituency. This time around you've Tshinga-Dube who is seeking your support not only for himself but the party at large.
"It's now time to tell the opposition that Bulawayo isn't a political playground. Voting for a Zanu-PF candidate in this constituency is the only solution to bringing development and uplifting the standard of living. People like Tshinga-Dube are from the revolutionary and ruling party. If you vote for him to represent you in Parliament all your concerns regarding development and living standards will easily be addressed," he said.
Kasukuwere said for more than a decade, the electorate in Makokoba had been taken for a ride by the MDC-T parliamentarians such as former legislator Gorden Moyo who failed to bring development in the area.
"The upcoming by-elections give the people of Makokoba an opportunity to bury the MDC-T and other opposition political parties' ghost 10 feet under. Let's shame the opposition parties. They're a sinking ship, which for the past 10 years lied to you that they would bring development and uplift the standard of living in the constituency.
"Last time you had (Gorden) Moyo. Show me even a Blair toilet that he built for this constituency. To our youths, I say don't give opposition candidates a chance as they're self-seeking, instead vote for people who speak on behalf of the Makokoba community when in Parliament," he said.
Zanu-PF and the government have come up with a five-year economic blueprint, the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-economic Transformation (Zim-Asset), which was premised on four pillars, food security and nutrition, social services and poverty eradication, infrastructure and utilities, as well as value addition and beneficiation.
Zim-Asset seeks to achieve sustainable development and social equity anchored on indigenisation, empowerment and employment creation, which will largely be propelled by the exploitation of Zimbabwe's abundant human and natural resources.
Kasukuwere said Zanu-PF candidates in the forthcoming by-elections had been sent by the Presidency to reclaim all the seats the revolutionary party lost to opposition parties in the previous elections.
He said Zanu-PF sought to empower the country's indigenous citizens through the Land Reform Programme and the Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Act.
The Zanu-PF Political Commissar said locals were previously marginalised under the colonial regime before the country attained Independence in 1980.
Kasukuwere spoke highly of Retd Col Dube saying he played an instrumental role during the liberation struggle and to date has remained loyal to the revolutionary party.
"Rtd Col Dube is one of the gallant freedom fighters who worked with the likes of the late General Solomon Mujuru in Chimoio. Rtd Col Dube has been very instrumental in the liberation struggle and today remains loyal to the party.
"Despite being a businessman, Dube is very humble, down to earth and solid. It's now time to honour him and say thank you. So let's all rally behind him in the next by-elections."
A number of former MDC-T activists in Makokoba defected to Zanu-PF at the rally. They said they had learnt that the opposition party did not have the people at heart.
In an interview after the rally, Rtd Col Dube said: "If elected, I would try to improve the lives of people in Makokoba. Most people want to be MPs with the objective to secure luxurious government vehicles. I want to improve and uplift the living standards of people in Makokoba as well as bringing development in the constituency."
Zanu-PF politburo members and central committee members, Nomthandazo Eunice Moyo, Joshua Malinga, and the party's acting provincial secretary for Mashonaland East Charity Manyeruke, among others attended the rally.
