Political commentators have said Zanu PF is now finish considering the divisions rocking the ruling party and inconsistencies in speech by its old leaders such as President Robert Mugabe and Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko.
The remarks came after Mphoko (74) made a damaging faux pas when he made a slogan extolling former VP Joice Mujuru.
Sloganeering at a rally in Hurungwe West the past week, Mphoko shocked delegates after he unwittingly chanted the slogan "Pamberi na (Forward with) President Robert Mugabe! Pamberi naDr Joice!"
Just after blurting out the fatal slogan, he immediately corrected himself.
Apparently, the 74-year-old Mphoko intended to say "Pamberi naDr Grace Mugabe."
"Pamberi naDr Joice! Eish! Pamberi naDr Grace Mugabe," he said.
"We have been sent by the president to ask for your vote," he continued.
"You are the ones who voted for (Zanu PF Hurungwe West candidate Keith) Guzah in the primary elections and please don't dump him."
The VP went on to make a passionate plea to Zanu PF supporters in a crowd that included school pupils in uniform, to vote for Guzah to save Mugabe from embarrassment.
"The provincial chairperson (Ziyambi Ziyambi) we should not embarrass the president by losing the seat. We can't be defeated by (Temba) Mliswa," said the garrulous VP.
Frantically trying to distance himself from Zanu PF ructions amid concerns that they are now numerous centres of power, Mphoko said he only acts on instruction of Zanu PF's first secretary Mugabe.
Revesayi Mutede Makubalo said Mphoko contradicted himself in an effort to please Mugabe.
Setfree Mafukidze said the Zanu F old guys are always saying that and it is not a mistake they are all gamatox.
Wilhelm Olivier said there was this spiritual leader, authority in a land known to be a prophet.
"A King offered to pay him handsomely if he would curse the Hebrews who were migrating at the time," he said.
"The prophet said he was willing but could only say what words God put in his mouth. Then he went on to bless instead of curse. His words were irrevocable. Then there was this authority in a land close at hand who said Pasi ne Zanu, and then that Morgen Tsvangirai won with 73%, and now we have the 2nd in authority saying pamberi ne Joice. These words are irrevocable."
President Mugabe when addressing war veterans last year said Tsvangirai won by 73% and he also said Pasi neZanu PF.
Emily Musipa said Mphoko is just a statue standing steel moves when moved very shame. Thulani Sunboy said he wonders always women carry their handbags.
"I will never know, but i can tell you that some people have become Mugabe's and Zanu PF's handbags," he said.
"A handbag is carried everywhere blindly, thats the same way people in Zanu PF have been made to do.Joyce is a major player in Zimbabwe's politics nomatter what has happened to her,no one can deny that. When her proponents talk about her everyday it shows how strong she is. As for Mphoko he didn't make a mistake he meant it but for a second he had forgotten that he is a handbag that is only allowed to toe its owner's wild goose chase. If Zanu PF is that popular y should kraalheads be forced to march people to polling stations.I can force a new dawn and era on the horizon, phambili noDr Mujuru, umama welizwe."
Zvenyika Kurira said Mphoko has got no contributions to the country, he is just no one to a finished country even reading his own message is a problem.
Rutendo Bvumavaranda said it seems Dr AMai Mujuru is on every one's mind including the two VPs and our dear leader.
