VICE PRESIDENT Phelekezela Mphoko has been gathering information about Mnangagwa's participation during Gukurahundi since 2013.

Mphoko wanted in particular information showing Mnangagwa's meetings with apartheid intelligence chiefs. This was after local news portals ran a series written by Kent State University Professor Timothy Scarnecchia titled Rationalising Gukurahundi: Cold War and South Africa Foreign Relations with Zimbabwe, 1981-1983, which exposed how President Robert Mugabe's government in the 1980s collaborated with apartheid South Africa on Gukurahundi massacres for different agendas.

Mphoko was keen on the original files which were de-classified in Pretoria a few years ago.

These were the same files used to write the article.
