MDC split is testimony of confusion in the opposition, says Mphoko

VICE-President Phelekezela Mphoko yesterday said the MDC that has split into many groupings is testimony of confusion in the opposition and the June 10 by elections therefore presented a golden opportunity for Zanu-PF to win back seats in Bulawayo.
Speaking at a rally for Zanu-PF Makokoba candidate Tshinga Dube at Stanley Square, VP Mphoko said the government was seized with the revival of Bulawayo industries but the city also needed capable representatives to carry the people's aspirations.
VP Mphoko said he had engaged some local business people who had agreed to work with the government towards bringing the city to its former glory.
He reiterated that development can only come about when people had capable representation of the ruling party.
"The day of voting is fast approaching. Let's not continue to be misled. The MDCs are divided, they've split into more than 5 outfits. They're like the open palm that symbolises them with five fingers," said VP Mphoko.
"Industries have collapsed over the years resulting in massive unemployment. That's what we're fighting day and night. We're working tirelessly to make sure that industry is revived and people get employment."
The VP said he had been sent by President Robert Mugabe to convince the people to vote for Zanu-PF, the only revolutionary party in the country.
VP Mphoko said he was honoured to address the crowd on Africa Day at Stanley Square that was venue to a number of crucial meetings in the days of the liberation struggle.
Dube expressed confidence of winning the constituency by more than 80 percent of votes cast.
He paid tribute to the party and his campaign team for the vigorous campaign in the constituency saying 10 beasts would be slaughtered as part of the victory celebrations.
"I'm willing to work for you with all the power God has given me to make a change in Bulawayo,'' he said.
Dube said while Parliamentarians get allowances, he was working and getting a salary but was willing to sacrifice his job to represent the people.
He said the MDCs were just celebrating that Zanu-PF has not won a seat in the city for the past 15 years but what they forget is that during the period they did nothing for the people.
Dube said the opposition parties are a minority in Parliament and have no power to influence anything in the running of the country.
"Don't be misled by these so-called independent candidates. They're only there to work for their families and not the people. The day is coming, make sure that you go and vote for the development of Bulawayo," he said.
Five seats fell vacant in Bulawayo after the expulsion of 21 former MDC-T MPs from Parliament in March after they abandoned the Morgan Tsvangirai led party to form the MDC Renewal.
The other vacant seats in the city include Luveve, Pumula, Lobengula and Mpopoma
