Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights) has organized a protest march scheduled for today in Harare against the introduction of the grade seven examination fees and the increases of the Ordinary level examination fees.
This was announced by the organisation's National Director Okey Machisa who said Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights) is inviting people to join in the march in protest of the move by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to introduce examination fees of $3 per subject for Grade 7 sitting pupils and to increase O' Level examination fees from $13 to $15 per subject.
"Due to current economic hardships, families are struggling to sustain themselves and to pay school fees. It will be especially difficult for them to pay extra amounts in examination fees," said Machisa.
"The March will be held on the 28th of May at 10.00am. The procession will start from ZimRights' head office, along Fourth Street, into Jason Moyo Avenue towards Third Street. A left turn shall be made into Third Street towards Eastgate then left into Speke Avenue and a short stop will be made at Chester House building where offices of the Education Department are located. A Petition addressed to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, will be presented."
Government this term increases the O level examination and introduced the grade seven examination fees amid out cry from the parents and human rights groups.
