Man (73) attacked, killed in front of wife

A man from Zaka was hit with an iron bar by unknown assailants and died in the presence of his wife as the two walked back home from a beer drink.

Fombo Machele (73) of Machele Village was with his wife Margaret Machele (54).

Midlands police spokesperson Nkululeko Nduna assistant  Inspector Nduna said one of the suspects who is said to have struck the deceased with the rod is Godknows Makotore   (35) of the same village as Machele.

Nduna told Masvingo Mirror that the deceased's wife cried out for help and Makotore struck her once with an iron rod on the right hand. She then ran away crying for help leaving her husband being assaulted.

Apolonia Machele 54, Titos Masitere (58) together with other villagers rushed to the scene but they discovered that the accused persons had fled away. He sustained multiple fractures on both legs as a result of the assault. Machele died at midnight the following day before he was taken to hospital.

The deceased's body was taken to Msiso Mission Hospital mortuary where a post mortem was expected to be done
