866,710 Zanu-PF members to elect Mugabe's successor

ABOUT 900 000 Zanu PF card carrying members will elect President Robert Mugabe's successor through a secret ballot during primary elections, it has emerged

As of December last year,  Zanu PF has 886 701 card carrying members.

According to the Zimbabwe Independent, the new system would be costly and present logistical challenges.

The new system under the party constitutional amendments endorsed by the December congress has potential to trigger free-for-all scramble when Mugabe goes and an extra-ordinary congress is called to endorse a new candidate for the 2018 general elections.

Jostling for top posts has intensified in recent weeks.
