ZANU-PF has challenged those spinning conspiracy theories of alleged factionalism in the party to bring evidence forward so that the offenders are brought to book.

The private media has lately been claiming that there are heightening tensions within the party and have singled out the Young Turks or Generation 40, a clique of younger politicians, as being too ambitious.

The private media has also speculated that there are efforts within the party to prevent Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa from succeeding President Robert Mugabe.

In an interview on Thursday, Zanu-PF national spokesman Simon Khaya Moyo dismissed the conspiracy theories.

"My position, really, is that give us the facts," said Khaya Moyo.

"If the facts are there surely we're in a better position to understand. But if it's a matter of assumptions or a matter of somebody's suspected thoughts, well the party cannot run on that. Whoever has got the facts (must) bring them forward and say, "Here are the facts"; and then of course the party will take appropriate action because we don't want discord within the party.

"We want harmony in the party, we want to work as a unit, we want to work as a family and we're guided by our very clear motto as a party which is unity, peace and development and people must subscribe to this motto very seriously."

He dismissed the notion of the so-called G40 and pointed out that Zanu-PF was not divided along age groups.

"Our party has all ages," explained the spokesman. "I don't know at what age one believes he is not part of the party or this one; the elders are now not part of the party.

"We don't have such a provision in our constitution. Once you're a member of the party you're a member of the party and we don't want to categorise ourselves in terms of ages because there's no such provision.

"You're a member of the party, you're carrying a party card and that's that. But when we start to categorise membership, that's certainly in violation of the constitution because we've no such provision."

He scoffed at the idea of factionalism saying that nobody "owns people in Zanu-PF" but the party did.

On the recent wholesale expulsion and suspension of up to 100 members, Khaya Moyo said due processes were undertaken to bring to book offenders of various transgressions and that the processes were initiated at provincial levels and debated at the Politburo level.

"The point is that these aren't kangaroo court decisions. The position is that we're a party with a constitution, rules and regulations which apply to every member of the party," said Khaya Moyo.
