Girlfriend bashed with a belt after announcing pregnancy

A 19 year-old man from Kuwadzana Extension will perform 105 hours of community service for bashing his girlfriend and her friend after they came to inform him that she was pregnant. Matthew Basa was at the Mbare Magistrate court answering charges of physical abuse for bashing Wendy Kapiti.
Magistrate Rebecca Kavhiya sentenced Basa to 20 months imprisonment but suspended five months for five years on condition of good behaviour. Another fifteen months were suspended on condition that he performs community service at Kuwadzana polyclinic.
It was the State's case that on August 18 this year at around eight in the evening, Wendy went to her boyfriend's place with intention to inform him that she was pregnant naturally hoping that her partner would rejoice at the impending bundle of joy.
Upon arrival, Wendy asked Basa for his parents but he told the two that his parents had gone to church. When she broke the intended joyful news Basa reacted by thrashing her without mercy. He started assaulting the pregnant girlfriend with a belt.
He also grabbed her by the neck and gave her a strong head butt. Not satisfied by this attack he turned to Wendy's friend and also gave her a heavy dose of his head butting techniques. Ashley Mutindo was head butted for accompanying Wendy and sustained some injuries on her eye. For that matter he was arrested and brought to court.
