Gomwe, six others arrested Zanu-PF Harare province Youth League chairman Godwin Gomwe and six other party officials will know their fate tomorrow after Harare provincial magistrate Vakai Chikwekwe set Wednesday the 3rd of June as the date for bail application ruling.

Gomwe and his accomplices are accused of extorting more than $46 thousand from eight housing cooperatives in Glen Norah using the First Lady, Dr Grace Mugabe's name.

State prosecutor Michael Reza is opposing the bail application.

The prosecutor argues the accused are not candidates for bail as they are linked to other crimes around the country that include violence.

Reza says Gomwe and the other six accused violently wanted to take over Blue Glass Mine in Kadoma and assaulted guards and officials and used their political muscle to intimidate the complainants until they withdrew the case.

A receipt book written "Amai Dr Grace Mugabe Housing Consortium" was produced in court as an exhibit.

The State also argues that Gomwe once attempted to commit suicide in Makuti before a police officer confiscated his pistol and rat poison, items which have been kept as exhibits.

Gomwe's lawyer John Ndomene claims the charges are just part of a smear campaign from political opponents.
