Crime drops in Harare's CBD

Harare central business district has recorded a slight drop in criminal activities in the first three months of this year with only 6000 cases reported, police have said.
Officer Commanding Harare province, Senior Assistant Commissioner Shadreck Mubaiwa, is quoted saying that from January to March 2014, 5 941 cases were recorded.
"In summary, the grand total of cases received from January to March 2014 were 5 941, while during the same period this year the district received a total of 5 832 cases, reflecting a slight decrease of 109 cases, translating to two percent," he said.
Mubaiwa said unlawful entry into premises cases were 179 compared to 140 cases last year, translating to a 28 percent increase.
"Theft from motor vehicles from January to March 2014 totalled 335 and in 2015 (during the same period) totalled 263.
"Theft of motor vehicle cases from January to March 2014 totalled 16 and in 2015 totalled nine, reflecting a decrease of seven cases, translating to 44 percent decrease."
Plain robbery cases decreased by three percent with 285 cases being reported compared to 295 cases during the same period last year.
