ZEC order BCC to provide staff for by-elections

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has ordered Bulawayo City Council to avail 70 staff members for next week's by-elections in five wards, a council report reveals.

Mr  I. Ncube, the provincial elections officer - Bulawayo wrote:

"RE: PERSONNEL FOR JUNE 10, 2015 BY-ELECTIONS IN LOBENGULA, LUVEVE, MAKOKOBA, PELANDABA-MPOPOMA AND PUMULA

"Reference A: Constitution of Zimbabwe (amendment No. 20) Section 239 (j);

"Reference B: Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13), Section 10; and

"Reference C: Public Service Commission Minute Ref; C/569 dated 16 April 2015 to all Government Ministries.

"Kindly avail the personnel as per attaché schedule in soft and hard copy. Those availed should be residing or working preferably in those Wards and Constituencies to enable them to vote, as well as to cut on travelling because no transport will be availed before or after duty.

"Please, note that the Constituency and Ward numbers are, for your guidance, personnel should be submitted according to the wards…"  reads part of the report released today.

In terms of break down, council seconded 26 workers for Lobengula, Luveve (56),  Makokoba (15), Pelandaba-Mpopoma (22) and 63 in Pumula.

 Council  resolved that "That Council staff members (70) to be seconded to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for the forthcoming by-elections 2015 on the understanding that the costs thereof shall be borne by ZEC.
