FORGING a University of Zimbabwe Bachelor of Social Work Degree and using it to secure a senior position at a Mutare Non-Governmental Organisation backfired for a city man after being arrested in connection with the case.

Jeremiah Makoni (46) of House Number 12, Jeffreys Road, Morningside, appeared before Mrs Sekai Chiundura last week and pleaded not guilty.

He was ordered to pay $100 bail. It was the State's case led by Mr Douglas Matiure that sometime in 2010, Makoni allegedly forged a Bachelor of Social Work Honours Degree by pasting his name onto the degree purporting that he was a holder of the said degree.

He allegedly used the forged document to secure employment at The Diocese of Mutare Community Care Programme as a monitoring and evaluation manager.

"On May 26, 2015, detectives received a tip-off that Makoni was using a fake degree purportedly issued by the University of Zimbabwe. Makoni was arrested and interviewed. He admitted to having forged the degree using his office desktop computer," said Mr Matiure.

Five certified copies of the forged document were recovered from Makoni's office.
