ZEC appoints new Chief Election Officer

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has appointed Constance Chingwamba as substantive Chief Election Officer.
Her new posting is with effect from June 1.
Chingwamba was Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet.
In a statement, ZEC said, "The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs Constance Chingwamba as the substantive Chief Election Officer with effect from 1st June, 2015.
"Mrs Chingwamba brings in a wealth of experience in Public Administration having occupied senior management positions in government including being secretary to the Public Service Commission, Primary and Secondary Education.
"As secretary to the Public Service Commission, she was a member of the Elections Directorate," ZEC said in statement.
Meanwhile, ZEC Chairperson, Justice Rita Makarau has said preparations are going on smoothly and most of the logistics are now in place while ward and constituency election officers have undergone the appropriate training.
More than 400 000 people have registered to vote, translating to an average of at least 25000 people per constituency.
Makarau said 104 candidates from 11 political parties and some independent candidates will be contesting for the National Assembly seats in various constituencies.
Results of the by-elections are expected to be released by midnight of Election Day.
The results will be displayed outside the polling stations soon after counting of the ballots as stipulated under the SADC Protocol on elections.
